Biogas – The energy of future generations
- 19th Annual Conference of the German Biogas Association (Fachverband Biogas e. V.) with Biogas Trade Fair as scheduled in Leipzig
- Over 200* exhibitors already registered
- Conference programme set – “Biogas for municipalities” once again featured
From 2nd to 4th February 2010 Leipzig will be the venue for the central conference of the biogas sector with supporting trade fair. The German Biogas Association expects more than 3,000 visitors over the three days. In addition to the lectures in the plenum and the workshops, numerous companies are presenting the latest products and services at Europe’s largest trade fair focusing exclusively on biogas.
Following the coming into force of the amended Renewable Energy Act (REA / EEG) as of 1st January 2009, the biogas industry has gradually recovered again. Despite the economic crisis and increasingly complex and longer approval procedures, by the end of the year approx. 600 new facilities and plants will be producing regenerative energy using biogas. Many companies are delighted with full order books and the research and development side is also is also taking large strides forward. The range of facility types has become broader: “On the one hand small facilities up to 190 kW are experiencing a comeback due to the slurry bonus, on the other, megawatt facilities are being produced, which feed their conditioned bio-methane directly into the natural gas grid”, says Josef Pellmeyer, President of the German Biogas Association (Fachverband Biogas e. V.). The processing of biogenic waste is becoming increasingly significant; in Wendland Germany’s second filling station operating purely on biogas is being set up. This and many other themes form the contents of the 19th Annual Conference. At the same time Europe’s largest fair exclusively for biogas is being held with over 250 expected exhibitors.
In 2010 the range at the fair will feature the following segments: planners/manufacturers of biogas plants and plant components, renewable raw materials along with services/information.
Conference programme on the pulse of time
Current results will be presented and discussed in the 23 lectures in the plenum and eleven workshops. The theme blocks of the plenary lectures are: biogas plant technology, sustainability, increasing efficiency, the amended Renewable Energy Act, substrate provision along with the trends in plant and facility management. The themes of the workshops extend from “Legal requirements in fermentation product processing” up to “Success factor communication and public relations”. As one of the focal points at the 19th Annual Congress, gas feeding will once again feature in many lecture blocks. In this connection a highlight of the Annual Conference will be the panel discussion on the second day of the event at 11:30 hrs. The event will be hosted by Jörg Mayer from the Agentur für Erneuerbare Energien (Agency for Renewable Energies). Following the introductory lecture presented by Dr. Martin Altrock, Rechtsanwälte Becker Büttner Held (lawyers’ office), representatives of the five Bundestag fractions will hold discussions with Prof. Dr. Martin Maslaton, Dietmar Schütz and Josef Pellmeyer.
Due to the great international interest in German biogas applications, all lectures in the plenum will also be simultaneously translated into English.
Parallel event with focus on municipalities
For the second time the Association is responding to the increasing demand on the part of the cities, towns and municipalities for a future-proof solution to pressing energy issues by staging the parallel event “Biogas for municipalities”. The themes of the lectures will cover the cornerstone points in the realization of Renewable Energy projects in relation to aspects such as the “Promotion of renewable energies by the KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau), “Activities and strategies in the switchover to renewable energies” or “The legal framework in the implementation of bio-energy projects in municipalities”. In the afternoon exemplary practical applications from three municipalities will form the focal point. As a complementary measure participants at the “Biogas for municipalities” event can also book lectures in the plenum.
Support programme: festive evening and informative field trips
The second day of the Biogas Annual Conference will be brought to a festive close. Firstly, personalities who have rendered outstanding service to the biogas sector will be presented with the Dr. Heinz-Schulz Medal of Honour. Following this ceremony the evening event will offer the opportunity to cultivate existing contracts or make new ones in a relaxed atmosphere. On the afternoon of 4th February the Association will invite its members to attend the Annual General Meeting. On Friday, 5th February, the Annual Conference will be followed by the biogas field trips to selected facilities and plants in the greater Leipzig area. Three different tours will be organized: tour one will be focusing on waste-processing facilities, tour two will take in renewable resources and materials facilities and the third tour will be specifically aimed at the international visitors – exemplary biogas facilities will be viewed and accompanied by an English explanation.
